Guidelines for Visa Application

PREAMBLE

  1. All visitors to Ghana must be in possession of valid entry visas issued by a Ghana Diplomatic Mission or Consulate abroad or any other visa-issuing authority mandated by the Ghana Government to act on its behalf. EXCEPT ECOWAS nationals and those of other countries with which the Government of Ghana has specific agreements.
  2. Persons who enter the country as visitors are not permitted to take up employment even if there happens to be a vacancy on the Immigrant Quota of a prospective employer.
  3. All applicants above the age of nine (9) months old coming into or transiting through Ghana are required to have been vaccinated against Yellow Fever at least ten (10) days from the proposed date of travel and where already vaccinated, provide evidence (the certificate) indicating the duration of a vaccination status of not more than ten (10) years before entering Ghana.  
  4. Applicants will be required to complete an application in quadruplicate (4 copies), in ENGLISH and in CAPITAL LETTERS to be submitted with four (4) recently taken passport-size pictures for processing. The application form can be downloaded from the Embassy’s website, filled and submitted together with the originals of all required documents in person at the Consular Section of the Embassy or by post to the following address:

 NB:      Applicants wishing to submit their visa applications by post must provide a self-addressed envelope with A Registered Mail Stamp for the return postage.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Online applicants are reminded to download, print and sign a copy of the PDF version of the online application form. This should be posted to the Embassy (above address) together with your passport and other supporting documents. 

The visa application process begins ONLY upon receipt of the originals of the visa application form and supporting documents at the visa section of the Embassy.

 

SPECIAL NOTE ON VALIDITY OF VISAS

-   A single entry visa has a three (3) months validity from the date of issue

-   Three (3), six (6) and twelve months’ multiple entry visas have three (3), six (6) and twelve (12) months validity, respectively, from the date of issue. However, the period of permitted stay in Ghana is determined by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at the points of entry, usually sixty (60) days.

-   In all cases if the holder does not enter Ghana within the period of validity indicated, the visa becomes invalid.

-   Visitors may extend their permitted stay in Ghana by applying to the Director of the GIS for consideration.

 

PROHIBITED IMMIGRANTS

The under-mentioned categories of persons are prohibited immigrants:

-       A person of unsound mind.

-       A person considered to be a security risk.

-       A person against whom there is a deportation order in force.

 

GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR APPLICANTS

An applicant should:

    1. be of French/Portuguese nationality or be officially/legally resident in France or Portugal
    2. provide evidence of legal residence in France or Portugal if he/she is a non-French or non-Portuguese national
    3. provide a valid passport with expiry date of at least six (6) months from the date of application for the visa
    4. provide a copy of a valid international certificate of vaccination against Yellow Fever
  1. Applicants under 18 years require a letter of consent from their parent(s)/legal guardian together with a copy of the parents’ photo ID
  2. Holders of Diplomatic/Service/Official Passports are required to submit their applications together with a NOTE VERBAL from their Embassies/Consulates/International Organization accredited to France and Portugal or from the French/Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  3. Applicants are, in addition to the above, required to submit any of the following where applicable:

REFERRALS

In exceptional cases, certain applications shall be referred to Ghana for prior approval. In such cases the applications may take much longer than the usual processing time.

                                                                       

METHOD OF PAYMENT

Payment of visas can be done either by:

-       Cash at the Embassy

-       ‘Mandat Cash’ if you are in France and international money order if you are in Portugal;

(the above can be obtained at the post offices in the name of the Ghana Embassy)

-       Online payments (to start soon)
